Last week I was heads down doing strategy for Q1 2025.

Yes, I know, most Indie Hackers believe it’s a waste of time.

“Just do things”.

I believe this is a fools’ errand.

But so is endless thinking and strategy sessions that don’t lead to action.

You need both. (The older you are/get, the more you will come to agree with me.)

So…

After reviewing our products, I noticed something. I'm excited for 2025. Especially for the moats we get to leverage.

The products with a 50DR, big email lists, and social media accounts. The markets we have unique insights into for the last year and a half.

As a rule of thumb, anything that makes strategy good is proprietary.

Anything that takes a lot of work to get, is hard to copy.

Your competitors don’t want to work hard, they want a silver bullet.

AI made it even harder to compete with a cookie-cutter product, and it’s going to get worse.

2025 is the year we are going to lean into moats and stop doing the rest.

Becoming a Learning Machine

I wrapped up Good Strategy/Bad Strategy and used it to build myself a Claude Project to create a strategy.

I used it for all the Strategies I’ve made last week and will be making in the future.

The book is super actionable and easy to integrate. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to improve at not just motion but building momentum.

Now, I’m reading “The Bezos Blueprint” to get better at written communication.

Think the concept is nice, but the content could probably fit in a blog post.

Will let you know if my thinking changed once I’m done (half way there)
